In a study conducted in December 2018 by Dr Paul Matewele, a microbiologist at London Metropolitan University, faecal bacteria were found on touchscreens at a popular fast food chain.

Dr Matewele: "We were all surprised at how many intestinal and faecal bacteria there were on the touchscreen machines. These cause the kind of infections that people catch in hospitals."
